CHOOSING THE RIGHT TILE

With so many different types of tiles on the market, making a choice can be a bit overwhelming for some people. Listed below are some of the hottest trends for you to consider when designing your custom home.

CEMENT TILES

Cement tiles have been around for centuries, but they have recently started to pop up in design savvy, contemporary homes all over the world. Along with creating artfully polished displays, cement tiles are crafted from natural materials such as sand, clay, and color pigments, making them both extremely durable and eco-friendly. They work wonders just about anywhere inside your home, be it on floors, walls, fireplaces, etc, so it’s no surprise that cement tiles are a trend that’s persevered through the years.

GEOMETRIC TILES

Geometric tiles come in iconic shapes and energetic patterns, and the possibilities for this tile are endless with so many different geometric patterns. Geometric shapes are great at adding depth and helping a room truly stand out. Using this as an accent will make an area in your home pop by bringing a visual balance to them. Another great thing is that they go perfectly almost anywhere in the home.

A very popular style of this tile are hexagon tiles. The six-edge shape offers builders plenty of options as they come in a wide range of colors, finishes, materials, and sizes, so you’ll have plenty of choices, regardless of how bold or subtle you want to go.

Another type of geometric tile that is very trendy these days is Moroccan tile. It has been around for over 1000 years, and is known for vibrant colors, intricate designs, and a mixture of textures. From bathroom floors, kitchen backsplashes, and fireplaces, there are so many places to put this tile, and there is an almost limitless number of designs to choose from.

WOOD TILE

With wood tiles, between the natural look of wood, and the durability and moisture resistance of tile, you get the best of both worlds. We have seen this tile in a lot of contemporary and farmhouse styled homes. Wood tile is easy to maintain, and very easy to clean. It’s also good for creating a cozy look, without the stress over water damage. The surfaces of these tiles are usually textured wood grain, and because this tile is man-made, it can come in a variety of colors, finishes, and textures.

Large Format Tiles:

Large format tiles are larger tiles that exceed the average 12 x 12 size. The larger format tiles can be as large as 40 inches x 120 inches, and there’s plenty of variety as they are available in multiple styles. They provide a greater sense of spaciousness, as the size of the tiles directly affect the feel of the size of the room….so if you want an area or custom home to seem bigger, large-scale tiles would be a great option. Also, large format tiles are much easier to clean, as there’s less grout, so there are fewer areas which to store dirt, making them even more hygienic than other tiles.
